Envelope filters and distortion etc

Sign in to disble this ad
Howdy folks,

I have an Ashdown Envelope Filter, which was alright until it stopped working completely, for no apparent reason. Was never mad happy with it really though.

I also have an MXR Distortion pedal, which is a fairly robust pedal which does what it says on the tin, but isn't very subtle.

Any suggestions on replacements for these items? I really like envelope filters, and i want some dirt too.

All suggestions highly appreciated....

Cheers,

Bmurf

MXR M82 bass envelope filter and, once Os gets things going again, a Messdrive Hybrid+ or Gemini Drive. I absolutely love my messdrive.

Source Audio Base Envelope Filter and a Fuzz pedal. I have a FKR and am getting a Multiwave Bass Distortion right now. For $120 the SA BEF is the best filter you'll get for under $300, it just amazing.

Also the EHX Enigma Qballs is a great envelope filter plus distortion!

Well, this isn't meant to be OT, but I figured it'd be better to post here instead of starting a thread....

Anybody have trouble with The Maxon (Ibanez) AF-9 envelope filter? I used to have one that worked like a charm and then it and all my other pedals got stolen. I re-bought another recently and the peaks are seriously destructive and I can't make it quack with the sensitivity turned up at all.

Anyway, the Bass Bigmuff is a great value and works great. You kinda get a John Wetton (King Crimson) sound out of it.

Same bass? Any other pedals in the chain that may've affected the signal gain going into it?

I often run mine in a blender loop to allow for the wetter settings to be balanced by a better fundamental, although it's not necessary to do so.

Yeah, it does it with the same bass and same practice amp, but it's the only thing in line since all my other pedals are gone. I don't specifically remember having to turn on my compressor to run the AF-9, but I may have been doing just that...

What gets me is that the first one gave me hours of fun tweeking the sliders and switches and playing with different settings. This time only ONE setting will work at all on my bass and its not very "wet". Very puzzling and discouraging.

I want to own one (A good e. filter) but I just ended up taking it back and putting the money down on a Yamaha TBR1005F.
