Envelope Filters in Heavier Music.

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm considering buying an envelope filter, although i already have a EHX BMS, and would be using it in "heavier" music; in the vein of Isis etc. I can see it being really neat with fuzz, whammy, chorus etc, but i only ever hear them being used in funk (for the most part). I think they sound cool as ****, and could be great for leads.

Ideas? Examples?

The Atomic Bitchwax has some prime examples of an EHX bassballs in heavier stuff. check out the song "Last of the V8 Interceptors", as well as "The Formula"

Speaking of heaver music, I hear them quite often in the Stoner and Doom genres, most often in bass leads, should there be some.

Justin Chancellor uses one, Al Cisneros used one on Dragonaut and one of the Shrinebuilder tracks...

+1 to the Atomic Bitchwax, too. That dude's tone is about 95% Bassballs.

Consider the pigtronix EP-2 envelope PHASER - less quacky than a traditional lowpass or wah-type envelope filter. great for stoner rock

I play "heavier music" and I use effects fairly frequently, including the BMS and filters.

Link in sig to samples. There's a lot of other players on here who do the same.

I know Robert Trujillo uses (or used ?) a Q-Tron, but I don't remember hearing any with Ozzy and Metallica.

Cliff used a wah pedal sometimes for leads, I know that.
