Envelope Filters for These Songs?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Sans-Amp bass driver which I can use to get overdrive and crunchy clean sounds and I have been thinking about getting a wah pedal. I want to get something which can sound similar to RHCP - Sir Psycho Sexy and The Power Of Equality, and Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls. I can't get two pedals, and clearly a wah won't cut it for the RHCP tracks. I thought, hey, maybe if I throw overdrive on an envelope filter it'll sound something like For Whom The Bell Tolls, and I could use it clean to sound like the other songs. Would that work? Also, which would match the tone closer, a Q-Tron Micro or a BassBalls Nano? Those were the two pedals I was looking at because they're both fairly cheap.

You could always check out EHX's sight. They have sound clips to see what you'd really like. I'm guessing the Q-tron is more of a "traditional" sounding filter with a wider frequency sweep where as the Bassballs has a more narrow sound. In other words, a Bassballs sounds more specialized and sounds unique, whereas there are more pedals out there that sound closer to a Q-tron.

What about with distortion after the envelope? Would that be fitting at all for For Whom The Bell Tolls?
