Which Eq pedal?

Hey, I know there's lot of threads like this but I want an eq pedal for mainly tone tweaking and not major coloring of my sound. i will either use it as a shaper/tweaker before my amp or use it in a loop with an overdrive as i want to cut some of the higher frequencies to round out the sound a bit! I've looked at the Source audio programmable Eq, the Mxr ten band eq, the whirlwind 10 band bass eq and the empress ParaEQ as ideas. Could someone tell me which one would work best and whether im looking at the right stuff or should be looking at something else. Thanks

Maybe if you let us know what was missing from those threads, what information you hoped to find but didn't find in them, we can help you narrow down your decision process.

Exar's business is on hold for now. I will still help previous customers.

There wasn't enough comparisons and no one really saying what they use it for and I wanted to know which suited the purpose more

None of those. I have a Rolls parametric eq with 4 bands with Q width, gain, and frequency. Parametric eqs can get you sounds that graphics are incapable of, having fixed Q's.

Is that the rack mount one as I need it in pedal format?

if you're just looking for something to roll off the high end, you might want to look at the Mark Bass Superbooster. This features the infamous VLE filter, that gradually rolls of the top to simulate vintage speakers.

Thnaks for the suggestion though I would like to use it for tweaking too

Basically all you've told us is that you want it for "tone tweaking", rolling off some highs, and it has to be easy to find in the UK.

Any EQ can tweak tone, though of course more knobs = more tweaking. Most EQ's can roll off some highs. And really it's up to you to decide what's easy enough for you to buy.

Of the ones you mentioned in the first post, what are your doubts or concerns?

For a great, good quality, yet cheap option I can recommend the Moen Buffalo

Well I want more precise tweaking and I'm just worried some will like colour the amp too much and be 'taking over' the amps preamp I want one that will sound transparent on flat position and then I'll just be able to tweak them all slightly for precise sound. I hope you get what I mean

Seems like the Empress or the Source Audio would be your best bets then. Neither colors the signal a ton, both offer a lot of versatile control.

Personally I prefer parametric EQ, so I'd lean to the Empress. But of course the Source is programmable, which is a hugely useful feature.

Right thanks I think the empress sounds like the one though like you said having a programmable pedal is useful

I had the source audio EQ and liked it, but it was more than I needed, so I sold it and bought one of the new Mooer Graphic Bs. It's tiny and has 5 bands that seem to be well chosen for bass. If you're looking for cheap, that's my recommendation.

I used the MXR for years. Great pedal that I used for clean boost.

It is a big bugger though....
