My current set-up is as follows:
Schecter extreme stiletto 5
Ashdown mini rig
Ashdown hyper drive
EBS metal drive

However, when you look more closely, it can easily be a low mid, mid mid, high mid pedal, which is how I use it. It's done wonders for my sound. |

| | How does he do that? | | | | | I wouldn't say that 10 bands are necessarily better than 3, although I agree that it would appear you have more control.
The X factor for me is to have control over the frequencies that matter...
I don't have the MXR, but I've heard good things about it, and I'm sure it will get the job done.
I've gotten good results with the Boss GEB-7.
And I have the Empress ParaEQ as well, and it does get the job done beautifully. I can now notch out offending hi and mid-hi frequencies that I couldn't get rid of before, and it doesn't color your bass' tone.
They're just tools.

They are both fantastic sound sculpters, but the wider and continuous Q adjustment on the WMD makes it much more surgical and potentially versatile for me.

I use an Orange TB500, so my EQ options aren't the greatest out of the gate. But with the MXR EQ, I was able to really get at the mids the way I had been wanting to, sculpting them to the sound of the room.
Scooped the pedal up used for a whopping $30 too! |

It's designed to do exactly what you describe you want an eq to do.
