EQ pedal settings for tapping

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, i recently added a bass line to a track the band was working on. To cut a long story short; one section of it i decided to finger tap a line. This is all fine and dandy however we're currently adding the track to our live set and when it comes to the tapping section my bass volume dips due to the fact that i can only tap the notes so hard. Ive had the thought to use an 8 band bass EQ pedal that i own to boost the signal in that section. I am looking for any tips on how to EQ my sound for tapping. The EQ on my amp is fairly flat. Any tips would be welcome,

cheers
Alex

Well, which frequencies are lower in level than you like? Boost those.

Welp, if you are tapping a certain section of the frequency band, boost those. If you are all over the fret board, just get the EQ to get you above unity gain and do what you see with/sounds golden to you with the frequency bands.

I've found the best EQ settings for tapping to be to dime the "80s" knob and to keep the "Taste" knob somewhere between 6 and 9 o'clock.

haha i completely agree, ive never used tapping before but it works so well for this one section of the song. Sounds like an arpegiating synth

IMO & IME you wont get the right result with eq, you need a well set up compressor instead.

You already identified this as a volume issue, so its actually dynamic related not tone related....

If you have to use an eq pedal and you like your tone, then leave the eq flat and use its volume slider ( supposing it has one ) to give a little overall boost, but I still think this is not the best solution!

+1. The best solution for tapping is compression, generally a little more than you would use for 'normal' fingerstyle.

If i had the money i would get a compressor however i do not. I already have the EQ pedal so im just trying to get the best i can out of what ive already got. The EQ pedal does have a volume boost so i'll try that

Send a message via MSN to roflol
practice some more if this is the first time you've been using it alot, you fingers will get up to strength and you wont need the boost!
