Ernie Ball VP Jr. -> expression pedal

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

I will probably order IE Xero Deluxe very soon, so I'd like to mod VP Jr. into an expression pedal.

I'd really be grateful for all information, schematics, gut shots, etc.

Cheers, Kris

Hey Kris, email me through the website and I can send you a schematic to mod your volume pedal into an expression pedal.

Also, it's worth noting that any passive volume pedal will work without mods, by using an "insert" cable, which is a stereo 1/4" TRS to dual mono 1/4" TRS cable. The only thing you really miss out on here is the range knob, which lets you limit the upper extent of the sweep (which is indeed quite useful).

I'm assuming you just plug the dual end into the input and output of the volume pedal?

Yes, exactly. This will work for all IE pedals and any other that uses the pot as a divider (Moog). For many digital pedals which use a resistance to ground as the variable, you don't even need an insert cable; you can simply plug into the output jack since that connects to the wiper and ground of the pot.

What about something like an analog delay with an exp jack for the delay time? In my case, an EHX Memory Boy.

I suppose I should just try it to find out.

UPDATE: I just tried it, with just a normal patch cable from the output of my VPJR to the Expression jack on the MB, and it works like a charm. cooooooool
