Is this an even trade? Maestro Brassmaster for...

Sign in to disble this ad
Howdy all,
I have a pretty beat up Maestro Brassmaster that I bought for $50 about six years ago. I think it muddy now matter how much I fiddle with it, and I don't like it very much. A friend of mine is offering to trade me a beat up Guild Starfire bass for it.

The bass has a lot of player wear, and the insides of the bass are starting to peek out near the top thumbrest, because his thumb has worn away all the wood!
Its structurely sound though, and was recently checked out by a tech. There isn't isn't much finish on it, and it has plenty of dings dents and scratches on it. The frets were also taken out at some point.

My pedal has most of the paint still on it but is just plain dirty, yet it works fine though. I just don't like the pedal, it makes everything either too muddy or too harsh. But apparently its a collectors item. After playing his bass, and he saw my pedal, he offered to trade me since I don't use it.

Is this a good deal or a bad deal? Would I be better off selling this pedal on ebay? I don't know what its worth, but I figure if he's offering me his bass for it...

Checking out the reviews on harmony central, one guy paid $5, the other guy paid in german marks. Neither helps me very much.

i dno how much its worth, but my understanding is it is a verrrrrry rare/sought after pedal. i think you might be able to do at least a little better lol.

edit***
just did a bit of digging and found this, from a thread from 2006 though, so YMMV

It'd be worth cleaning up the brassmaster, and especially if you have the box putting it on ebay or contacting Tom at the FMO Gear Shop.

I don't have the box. Possibly I'll hit him up soon, depending if I really like this Starfire or not

Whats the FMO Gear Shop? I'm guessing online?

Toasted, have I ever told you that you were a sweet heart and my favorite denizen of the effects forum, with the possible exception of Mystic Boo.

Toasted, you're a gear whore... Could you recommend me some fuzz that doesn't remind me of a flabby buzz saw.

I'd have to see the bass first, but I know I'd most likely make that trade. Starfires in great condition sell for upwards of $2K, and brassmasters sell for around $1K.

Wow.. Either way, you scored. $50 for a working Brassmaster is a killer price.

Do you have pics of it? Id be interested to see the condition of it (purely for interest, not as a buyer).

I did the trade already I'll take pics of the Starfire when I find the cable for my camera, and I'll ask my friend if I could take a picture of the brassmaster. (I don't see why not)

The Starfire wasn't in good shape at all, but it was structurally sound if that makes sense.

Good for you. I love the swap-a-roo, even if dollar for dollar it doesn't match up, in the end you're getting rid of something you don't really want, and getting something you do. I caught a little heat for one of my deals, but I'm ok with it, and that's all that matters. Looking foward to pics of this Guild.
