Eventide ModFactor or TC NM 1 Nova Modulator

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks,

I'm not a huge modulation effects user, so I figured I should get 1 multi-effect to cover everything. I have my choices narrowed to the Eventide ModFactor or TC NM 1 Nova Modulator. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with both, and what their thoughts were.

I really love the Eventide sound quality, but it's pretty expensive at $400 and seems kind of confusing to use. (I'm not much of a tweaker.) The TC Nova costs considerably less, and seems a bit simpler.

Any thoughts?

I have both on my board... If you're not a Tweaker then stay away from the Eventide. it's not really voiced for bass and is not real user friendly. Good effects though, at least a handful of them are. The Q-Wah and Mod Filter's Frequency response is to narrow to pick up a bass signal, so these effects are basically worthless. if you're willing to spend the time twisting knobs the Flanger, Chorus, Rotary, and Trem are top notch, the phaser is pretty middle of the road if you ask me and the Undulator effect is outta this world awesome for creating rich synthy ambient soundscapes...
The Nova Mod is a great Pedal. Easy to use, great effects. having 2 channels is pretty clutch as well. not to mention that in my opinion the choruses are 2nd to none. especially the tri-chorus, which is uber rich. it sounds like the nova mod is probably the pedal of choice for you. but honestly i'd try both b4 you made a purchase b/c they are both fantastic in their own rights.

Just A/B'd them both in a locat store.

Both are VERY good. And the TC has a few sounds that I like that the Eventide does not.

However, the Eventide is just HUGE in fat richness. Switching from the TC to the Eventide is almost like going from a mono speaker to surround sound. Amazing.

And pricey

I'm not an avid user of modulation so I decided I wanted one fix all solution. I went with the Nova Modulator and have been very pleased with it. My only complaint is I think a pretty common one, the system for switching presets is frigging awkward live. Other then that it is excellent. I'm more then satisfied with the mod sounds I get from it. I usually use it to fatten up my sound for swells, sometimes to play with fuzz. It works great in both scenarios.

I have no opinion on the Eventide other then it would be too much knob twiddling for me. I can barely handle the TC haha.

I went through this same process, throwing in the M9 as well and ended up w/ the Eventide, just because it's a reliable name and from the samples and reviews I'd heard and read, my fave FX was where this unit shined.

I've had it about 2 weeks and haven't been able to spend loads of time with it yet, but so far it's awesome. I'm probably about to "blank" it (factory reset) and start all over. Also, the user presets they have on the Eventide site (there's a TON) are a good place to start, and then tweak from there to taste.
Once I settle on a new act I'll sit down with it (I'm auditioning 4-5 groups right now) and get some presets for what I'll use live, and then make some for me to play around on.
