ever have your ep-2 break?

The other night the toe side string snapped on my older ep-2, i'm the 3rd owner and its seen some miles but still works fine (until now). So last night i tried to fix/replace the string. I have another ep-2 i also use, so i opened it up for comparison.

After about 20 tries I finally set the string length (from the tone pot gear to the spring) the same, and the spring tension seems to be the same to (eyeballed the distance between coils).

But I didn’t have the same type of string moog uses- Moogs rope is thinner and static, mine was 3 times thicker and more dynamic. So the string only wrapped around the "pot knob" twice instead of 4 times like the other ep-2. So the heel to toe action does not completely open and close the filter. its about 2/3 of the way there.

do i need a thinner string?

any recommendations on which to buy?

I would suggest Kevlar thread. It's thin yet it doesn't stretch.
