He is, among his best recorded work. In the interest of disclosure, I remember reading in a magazine years ago that he used either a Dbx or Boss compressor before the Boss OC-2. He used a similar sound on Pete Townsend's "Give Blood" too. Both of these tunes were done with fretless bass.

+1 beat me to it.

I want to say Levin on "Sledge Hammer".
Also thinking of "Walking on Sunshine", but may just be my memory of liking to use it on that chorus.

Tony Levin on Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" is the first thing that came to mind.

This clip was taken from a video camera attached to Tony's bass in concert.

I use the one in the Line 6 to avoid bringing a 5 string for a few songs. Took a LOT of tweaking to get it to work right but, if played correctly, it tracks down to low A.

Christian McBride playing on the song "The Philadelphia Experiment" by "The Philadelphia Experiment" (Uri Caine, Questlove, Pat Martino, Christian Mcbride), he also uses octave on others songs in the album if you want to check it out.

So, the bass line on Sledgehammer is not a synth bass? I didn't know that!
