Exhumed bass tone with PPB, AGRO, or Fuzzrocious Rat?

Okay, so some of you know the band, some of you don't. I am trying to achieve this tone:
YouTube - Exhumed - Decrepit Crescendo
YouTube - EXHUMED - "The Matter of Splatter"

I've been told it's a Boss ODB-3, but I don't have one and don't want one. I have three fuzz pedals right now. Pickle Pie B, AGRO, and the Fuzzrocious Rat. Does anyone want to help me get a tone similar to this? I've been workin' my knobs (yeah, you heard me) but haven't achieved it yet.

I think the AGRO might do the trick. It can get pretty grindy. I'm sure all three pedals could do something quite similar, I'm just having a hard time finding that buzz saw sound.

If you help me, I will forever tell people that you rule if your name is ever brought up... unless your name is Mark.

Also, for what it's worth, I'm working on setting up a cover show at a local bar (that has a lot of metal acts) and will be doing an Exhumed cover set.

Thanks in advanced, friends!

Eh...none of those, really. But if I HAD to pick...probably Agro. It gets almost rail-bashy..

Take the pickle B,
  • roll the saturation way back, 9-11 o'clockish (possibly even lower)
  • then bring in about 80% clean. you'll barley even hear the dirty sound.
  • Now crank up the volume on the pedal. You may have to get near max volume to really hear the grind mix with the clean.
  • Set shape to the treble-ish side of things.
  • Then give your amp a healthy scoop o' the mids.
Might get you somewhere near that tone. Keep in mind, trying to match a studio recording to a sound coming out of your amp is a near impossible task.
But sometimes you can get close... Let us know if this helps!

I originally had a feeling the AGRO would be the closest. To me it has a more grindy crunch to it. Since you (Matt) has chimed in, I will definitely try it! I know recreating a studio sound won't be easy, but if I can get something close to it I will be happy.

I will report back later after I tweak with my settings.

Thanks, dudes!

Well, the tone I'm getting with the PPB is pretty crusty. The Spector is pretty hot so I've gotta try it with some other basses, like my T-40. I'm digging it for sure. Recorded and mixed it might sound closer than how it does in my basement.

Also, I'm sure my clean tone is different than Ross'. I think he was running Ampeg, but not the same rig I have. I'm getting pretty close to that exact tone, though. Tomorrow I'll crank the volume up and see what I can do. I think if I boost my bass a bit it'll be where I want it. The tone I'm getting is a little more crunchier than his tone.

Matt, you rule. Thanks a lot!

So "crusty" is a good thing?
