Experience with Subdecay Baby Quasar?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've currently got a newish MXR Phase 90 on my board, on which I performed the R28 and C11/12 mods (vast improvement... removes the db boost and the mid hump). Still, it's a bit subtle in the mix for me... it's currently the weak link in my (intentionally minimalist) pedal board. I'd really like something wetter sounding.

I've heard the Maxon P90 clone with the internal freqency trimpot is good for bass. But I find myself drawn to the Subdecay Baby Quasar, which has an external frequency control. What can I say, I like knobs.

Anyone have any experience with this box? How do the frequency and voice parameters work with bass?

Thanks!

Wow, so I guess no one has played this thing yet! Hmmm... maybe I'll have to be the first and become an instant authority....

So, did you? I'm surprised this pedal isn't talked about more...

I'm planning on getting one... some point after I buy a car... so it's going to be a while. Definitely looking forward to hearing more about it.

I'm looking at a used one... if I can negotiate an acceptable price I'm gonna go for it.

I have one incoming tomorrow. I am not a phaser Junkie by any means, but if I don't have a phaser on my board I tend to get the shakes.

I'll report back, but I'm not sure I'm the best person to comment on the quality of a phaser.

Just played with it for about an hour. I like it but I don't love it. Its very organic sounding, but not quite as watery as I prefer in my phasers. I also think it would probably benefit running at 12v likes its capable of.

I was hoping to like the Baby Quasar more, but I think I am going to keep my Source Audio Tri-Mod Phaser as its versatility is great and I like the way it sounds.

So if anybody wants one...I'll be listing in the FS section for $130 here shortly.
