from what I know, the sound that was born later when it was popularized by people who got that "distorted sound" but used it in a harmonious and concordant way. Original rock and roll was born from a rhythm and style of the song. The distorted version was born after someone made the distorted sound sound good.

You use the effect that you want with the type of musical piece you're making.

Imagine that effects and specific sounds are like the medium you're working with in paint or sculpture, and the music itself is the finished composition, a field, a person, a statue of a person, an abstract, so on. The effects and instruments are the medium and the tools applied to make the composition (composition is the finished art piece, in any field)

Sometimes, all you need is proper EQing of your bass. All the overdrives and modulations in the world cannot fix mud. That is the job of a high-pass filter.

He isn't looking for an answer. He is looking to mock another thread on the front page. The OP used to have an FX board to rival Behndy. But sold it to laptop digital.

I think I'll keep it minimal. The plan right now is: Swell B-Peg, MK Megalith, EHX SuperEgo, Dr Scientist Tremolessence, Infanem Faye Sing, DMB Lunar Echo, and a swiss army parallel looper built by MSLP......oh.....and Cioks AC10 and dual expression pedal.

Eventually I'll get a looper (I really hate how there's two different utililty effects named loopers) and maybe I'll search for the compressor part of the B3K. When I was messing with the software, I found a setting that totally recreated the B3K using a compressor and fuzz......wonder which compressor it was modeled after......

From whence I have written it, "phrase sampler" shall be the name used for "loopers" that sample music phrases and repeat them.
