Expression Pedal

What expression pedals do you guys use? What could make two expression pedals different? I want to experiment with an expression pedal with my new Memory Boy pedal that I just bought from the classified ads.

im also in the market for an expression pedal.
im wary of plastic ones, ive spent so much on my pedals that i dont now want to skimp out on the thing im putting my weight on.

I use Ernie Ball Jr. 25K ohm pedals for my Eventide boxes. Rugged, reliable, great pedal!

Ernie Ball pedals are rock solid, but too big and heavy IMO. I don't stand on my pedals, I only use the weight of my foot, Nice smooth action though.

For the OP, maybe look for a PEEP... photo electric eye that works in an expression capacity. Could be fun.

Alesis F2 is pretty awesome....although I think they may be discontinued. Anyway it's a volume/expression controller with a pretty small footprint, and built well...better than the Moog or Roland imo.

hey has anyone used a Boss FV500L with Moogerfoogers? I can't seem to get mine to work with my MF-101 and I'm hoping I didn't mess something up by using it. It works with my pigtronix mothership with non TRS cables which is the weird thing. Anyone know?

Moogers definitely require a TRS cable to an expression pedal. If you think about it, an exp pedal is just a pot (like a knob). Pots have 3 lugs. Just like a TRS jack.

I used the "EXP" jack on a Boss FV500H with a TRS cable to control the cutoff on the MF-101 - worked like a charm. Getcha some cheap stereo TRS cables and voila

Hmm.... I was using what I believe is a TRS cable. It has two stripes on it, and I tested it with audio to make sure it worked. Any guesses?

I always thought those photosensitive units wouldn't be much use on stage, what with variable lighting and so on - the guy on the desk would be playing your pedal for you. :/

Well durn. I'm not sure. If it has the two stripes that is definitely a TRS cable. Are you sure you were using the "EXP" in on the Boss pedal without any other connections? You can use it only as an expression pedal, not as a volume control and expression simultaneously (I believe).

If you had it hooked up right, all I could imagine is that either the cable is bad, the EXP jack is bad, or one or both of those inputs (Boss EXP and Moog Cutoff in) are dirty - a spritz of contact cleaner in both could solve the problem as well. Keep us updated!

Yeah it was plugged into exp. i'm really hoping it's not the moog, but i guess i'll find out eventually.

I had the same problem with my Boss expression but it was the Moog jack - I could get either no sweep or a really scratchy sweep. I sprayed some contact cleaner in, inserted/ removed a cable a few times to spread it around and let it dry for maybe 20 minutes and it cleared it up. I know it's more money to spend which can be especially frustrating if it doesn't fix the problem, but chances are it just got grimey in there and it needs a good cleaning. Use a flashlight or point it up towards some light and see if it's really dusty in there.

hmm. well the mf-101 is brand new. i just got it out of the box yesterday, so i'm guessing even though the trs cable will send audio that it's just a bad cable anyways.

I was wondering if this problem was ever solved? I have a fv500L that I have been using with my Malekko 600D from time to time and for some reason now it won't control the Malekko. I have tried two different stereo cables with the same result. The other inputs and outputs for the fv500 work fine. If I unplug the trs cable from the Malekko the regeneration works as it is supposed to but the second the cable is in it basically goes back to zero and the treadle on the fv500 does nothing. Any other ways I can test these things to find out which is the culprit?
