Expression Pedal (EX1) for Line 6 M9

Sign in to disble this ad
Just picked up the Line 6 M9 - very cool. Only played around with it tonight for the first time, but many possibilities.

I am now thinking I will need to get my hands on an Expression pedal for the M9. I thought of the Line 6 EX1, but I've read a bunch of reviews that claim it's not constructed solidly and breaks easily.

So my three questions for those of you out there who own or have owned a Line 6 EX1:
  1. How durable is it? Is it worth the money?
  2. If not, can someone recommend a better one? I am worried that another brand's expression pedal may not give me full access to all of the options with the M9 that the EX1 would.
  3. Does anyone know the physical dimensions of the EX1? (Couldn't find it listed anywhere) I am concerned if it will fit on a PedalTrain Mini.

Thanks!

I would not buy Line6 expression pedal. I use 2 x Ernie ball Jr 25K´s (6181) with my M13. Works like a charm.

@ judas: I've heard of a couple of people using EBVPjr's as exps. Do the 25Kers have an exp jack or do you use something like:

No, you won´t neet that. Normal instrument/patch cable is just fine. Ernie ball Jr25K acts just like an expression pedal as you connect cable only to its output.

To the output on the expression pedal? I figured it'd be to the input.

How much if a PITA is it to upgrade the M9 to 2.0 with Monkey? I have to do that this weekend when I get my M-Audio Midisport UNO. I can't imagine it's that difficult - just curious.

Thanks!

Painlessly simple in Windows, but did not work at all with Mac OS X / Snow Leopard. But after the upgrade I ended up taking the M9 back and purchased an M13.

M13 upgrade

The upgrade is pretty simple but can't be done through monkey (yet). The MIDIOX process is really straight forward (just follow the instructions) and make sure that the MIDI
OUT plug on the UNO goes into the MIDI IN on the M13 and vice versa on the other plug. This has been a major source of frustration for other users as it (as you can guess) causes the upload to stall/fail.

I thought that the 40$ price from GC for the UNO USB/MIDI cable was a little steep, so I bought a 10$ (shipped) USB/MIDI cable on EBAY.
It worked flawlessly. I didn't even have to install any software for it. From start to finish it took all of 20 minutes!

here's the link to the auction I won:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_2196wt_1165

I'm not plugging the seller - it just seemed to work out pretty dang good. He is close to my location so I ordered it Friday morning and got it on Saturday!
