expression pedal question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have four pedals that take expression pedal inputs (some are multiple inputs on one pedal), but I don't want more than two expression pedals on my board.

Is there a way to make an A/B box, so to speak, to control where the expression signal is going?

Is there another way I'm not.thinking of?

Almost exactly the question I had a couple days ago... try this:

I am going to order a pair whenever I get the scratch, so I don't have an opinion of the SP-2 but figured I'd give you the heads up anyway.

I might have totally the wrong idea here, but would a line selector work for this? (like the boss one)

The one problem is when the second pedal is chosen from an A/B box, the first pedal will still have a TRS cable plugged into its expression input with no pedal attached, and many pedals will automatically drop their controllable value to 0 when this happens. Not a big deal if you never plan on running the two pedals together at the same time, but if you do, the value may drop out on the one you're not currently expression controlling.

Wooof! I never even thought of that. That could be disastrous if I'm not paying attention (which is not unheard of...)

I wonder if the same thing applies to the Mission SP-2? I'll have to read up on them. I suppose this could be a potential problem for any expression pedal switching set-up, whether it's the Moog option, the Mission option, or A/B box option.

What about a custom Y-cable (more like two Y's) where the controller is always active but the pedal may or may not be switched on? I realize I'd be controlling several pedals at the same time and could run into weird oscillating sync issues.

The Mission pedal will work like a normal A/B box, so the value may still drop to 0 when switching to a different effect. They're nice expression pedals FWIW- I have one. Basically just a Crybaby housing.

You can likely use a Y cable to control two pedals at once, but keep in mind the value is going to be altered on both pedals at all times (whether each effect is on or off) whenever the expression pedal is moved.
