Expression Pedals (DD-7/EHX HOG)

Sign in to disble this ad

first try at uploading an image- so if its not there use your imagination.

anyway- i got an ehx hog in the mail and am picking up a boss dd-7 today. i will be using an expression pedal for the hog- and a roland fs-1 tap tempo switch thing for the dd-7. however- it might be fun to also use the ev-5 expression pedal on the delay as well.

1. using y-cables for the exp input- could the dd-7 be controlled by both varieties of foot controllers?

2. also using y-cables- could the voltage output from the ev-5 control 2 different pedals- either simultaneously or separately? i assume the ev-5 is just sending user-defined voltage to either pedal- would a y-cable diminish the signal or cause it to respond differently?

if this wont work- i dont intend to get a second ev-5 for the dd-7 as i dont have room- but if so- itd be neat. thanks in advance for any advice you have.

As far as I know, the exp pedal is passive and is not sending any voltages but instead actting like a potentiometer. Linking them up with a Y cable would end up linking the control circuits of the 2 pedals together with unpredictable results. What you need is a stereo A/B box, you can make one yourself from a box, 2 stereo jacks, a 3PDT footswitch and a bit of wire and solder!

+1 Y cable is gonna do strange stuff.

As for using a tap tempo and an exp. pedal - well I'm going out on a limb here and saying 'bzzzt'. I had a quick look at the DD-7 manual and while I can't put my finger on it, I'm almost certain that it won't work without some bodgeyness.

thanks for the replies- will back off the y-splitters and avoid electrical fires.

my original goal was to save space and- at the same time- get more control out of the dd-7. with that shot- i wondered how i could use both a tap tempo and exp pedal on the dd-7.

so i called roland- and oddly enough- the dude i talked to said you couldnt use both the exp and tap pedals with the dd-7- even if you had a line selector. dont get how thats the case- but im sure the guys right- as he does work as roland product support.

The thing that pricked my ears was that it says:
Quote:
Hold down the built-in pedal and connect
the expression pedal
The function-setting mode for the expression
pedal is enabled and the CHECK indicator
lights in orange.
and then there's two more steps to complete before it works!

Whereas the tap tempo pedal you just plug in and it starts working straight away.
