F/X chain, using a pre-amp and power amp.

Hello, all!

First, I'm aware of the f/x order, including what's "supposed" to go into the f/x loop. However, I'm a bit unsure when it comes to the order when using a pre/power amp combination (pre-Aguilar Tone Hammer; power-QSC RMX850 bridged).

Do I put modulation effects, etc. after the pre-amp? Or, does everything go in front of the pre-amp?

Thanks!

And just FYI. . .I had done a search before posting this. I have also done a more extensive search since posting. Still can't find the answer.

It's all about signal levels. In order to use the Tone Hammer to drive a power amp, you have to crank its output up very high. At that point, the level is too high for most pedals, and will cause a lot of unwanted distortion. So the effects go before the preamp.

Only a guitarist, or a very superstitious and unscientific person, will tell you that modulation effects go one place and other types of effects go someplace else. Logic that is true for guitarists, who use their amp for singing super-compressed distortion, is completely untrue for a bassist who is not doing the same thing with their amp.

Thanks. I was kind of thinking that was the case, but I wasn't sure (and haven't had time to test it yet, either).
