farty, burpy overdrive sound

Hey,

I've been thinking of this specific tone that Chris Murphy from Sloan gets. It's kind of a farty, burpy thing that you can here in these videos:

At around 20 sec:

I've done a few searches and nothing comes up. Any ideas?

Sounds like that has more to do with his aggressive attack on those notes than the overdrive.

Hmm... sounds like the ubiquitous "P bass through SVT" (or SVT modeler).

Hmmm... I can totally hear that now. It sounded more distorted to me:

Here are a couple more:

...you know, the more I listen to this, the more I realize it's all shades of the same thing. He must just have the high a little higher than I run it, and he digs in on the rockers, getting a little more burp out of it.

Good ears, y'all. Kind of makes me want to check out a vt bass even more to see if it can pull that off. My PBDDI is a little too smooth to cop the tone.
