Any preferences for what works out in the real world? Looking at the Peterson and the TC Polytuner. Anything else I should be looking at?

A real one?

I kid, I kid. But why not just carry a small tuner like a Pitchjack with the bass? I doubt you could get the same precision from an iPhone.

I use the TC Polytune and it works great every time, bass or guitar.

+1 I can set my iphone on top of my Korg DTR-1 and it is dead on. Great portable tuner.

I'm simply waiting for the next time either one is $0.99 and will buy that one. Specs indicate the Peterson tuner is more accurate, but the Polytune functionality seems excellent. I'd personally use them for new instrument and intonation setups, not real tuning on stage or even practice.

I usually have my iPhone in the top pocket of my MB LMII bag. It'd be convenient; one less item to be concerned with ...but yeah, I've looked at the pitchjack. I could almost leave that in the tuner jack of my LMII and flip it up at gigs. But again- just another thing when my iPhone's right there regardless.

Thanks for the feedback. These would be very small scale cafe-type jobs.

I own both the PolyTune and the Peterson iStroboSoft and the PolyTune is the one I am grabbing mostly these days. Peterson is a Peterson, I bought the cable and have done set ups with it.

Both are very good options and I use them both quite a lot.

Same here. I either put my iPhone next to my monitor or my amp and it picks up everything it needs fine. Getting it free was a nice bonus.

That whole iRig app looks intriguing, but a bit too expensive. Before I got the Polytune app, I tried a bunch of different tuner apps and had pretty much given up on them beig accurate. Since the Polytune was free for a little while, I checked it out and was very impressed. I used it at church this past Sunday, just put my phone on the monitor and tuned. Did the same thing at band practice and it worked like a charm. It does require a good loud sound to work, but I haven't had a single problem with it yet. One of the girls playing guitar on Sunday used it too and she loved it.

got 'em both, and the peterson wins by a mile, as it's far more accurate. it's actually better than their dedicated $180 standalone virtual strobe tuner! (finer display and more processing power in the iphone).

the polytune is neat (i got it for free), but the peterson is the real deal.

Well, I downloaded the Peterson and it works very well for my (small scale) situations. I figure, for the cost, I could always try the TC down the road if not satisfied with the Peterson. Thanks for all the help!

I've downloaded both. I like either, but prefer the TC version (especially if you are using the mic!)
