It depends on the band (other players tones), the song, and the room acoustics.

100% true. EVERY ROOM will give you a different sound to work with. No matter what "perfect" tone you come up with, certain rooms will make it sound good, some will make it sound like cat poo, and other rooms will destroy your tone so badly, you will want to cry.

You can't take "cool bedroom tone" and make it band acceptable in seconds.

Metal Tone: Gain -6, Bass - 6, Low Mid - 6, Hi-Mid - 6, Treble - 6, Master at 6.

That is the best tone for metal!

Mine is flatish. Treble flat, hi mids cut a hair, low mids boosted a hair. Lows at 2 o clock.

on my peavey combo 300 ... flat all the way across ... tone down all the way on my bass ... and pull out those pre and post pots.... not sure what frequencies it boost... but i like it

now ... my little acoustic B20 ... i can't help but mess with the knobs... im alway's tweaking something. but I alway's start with what the manual gives as the classic bass tone.

I set my knobs to 666 for Metal.

And my bass must be black, obviously.
