I've had the DB-CL on my bigger board with several other toys for my rock trio where I have to fill in a lot of room. It is a bit more "sterile" sounding. Very transparent and I love being able to set the xover and only compress the lows. It really helps tightening things up, especially when playing through a bigger p.a. where my bass sound is coming from the p.a. and not my bass amp. I have only engaged the high comp on one occasion. I use it to compress the lows only.
The DE-CL came in a couple months ago and resides on my "country gig" Pedal Train Mini along with a Polytune Mini, MXR Octaver and Aguilar TH. Pardon the lack of technical jargon, but I find it a bit smoother and find myself playing with the Warmth dial which is like a little magical tone control. You can get a very warm tone, or add some edge to your sound.
If I had to pick between the 2, I would go for the DE-CL, but that's because I'm not one to tweak with a lot of knobs - more of a set and forget kinda guy.

R | +1 the DE-CL is so simple to use and having the separate limiter controls is awesome. I also love the warmth control it adds that "something" to my sound.

I still need to learn more about setting up compressors in general but I was still able to get a good tone out of it instantly. |

Some are even building impressive pedal comps modeled after prestigious rack units. Quote:

We are currently working on chipping away the compressor wait lists. All of the new pedal designs and all of the other non-compressor pedals have been put on hold until the compressor backlogs are down to short cycle wait times.

What a great compressor/limiter this is(used to have the maxon cp-9 pro +). My sound is so full and yet present and best of all it sound so natural/transparant.

My bandmates and soundmen in multiple settings have been commenting on how good "I" sound recently. Today I used in a venue that usually has disappointing sound I was really able to enjoy myself more.
I know there's some magic coming from the box. It's great!! I'm turning it up more and like even more compression. |

How should I bet setting my gain settings on the DE CL?
I'm rather new to compression and have been happy with the results I get, but I wonder how much I should be boosting my signal from it's bypass level. I do hear some small amount of noise added by turning on the compressor and assuming adding some gain will allow me to run everything else lower (amp or levels at mixing board) later to make up for that.
I'm also wondering how the gains to the compression relater to the limiter. It seems they are tied together and you can't increase one past the level of the other if I'm not mistaken, but I'm not sure what that all means. |
