I wrote this song recently....a little off the beat and path for me style wise
I'm using a very slight bit of chorus for the main line considering using a small hit of phase or flange as well (yes? no?)
(I realize the recording sucks as it is just us at practice...we are mic'ed up but no editing or polishing done to the track) but i curious what you guys think of my distorted tones on the rest of the track, does it sound too much like a guitar? using a tad of OD and some Fuzz (we are a three piece and i cover a lot of sonic holes on bass)
opinions?
don't critique the music (as this is still a rough)..lol just the bass tone http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7803638
well?

i run two seperate rigs one dirty one clean....i try to emulate a guitar using an octave up which along with the Fuzz and OD are being run through a 4x10 cab....the clean signal is running through a 1x15...the chorus is mixed into both at various points of the song
so i guess thats means it was somewhat convincing?

I'm wondering if there is a way that you might EQ that when you hit that lowest note it rings out a little deeper to give the tune some bass , but as a lead bass part I thought it sounded good.
Full disclosure I would have probably thought it sounded fine with any modulation unless it overwhelmed the part you played. (i.e. too damned much feedback on your flanger or something). |

so no phase or flange?...i think i may try it anyway just to see the difference
anybody else?

anybody else? | Actually, why don't you try mixing it up? Add certain emphases to each part. Light dirt once, phase sweep a part, and a real thick flanger sweep leading into a chorus or something like that? Hell, chorus could be your clean 'base.' |

Gonna try phase at practice tonight and see how it goes...
thanks for all the replies so far! keep them inbound...

Edit: LS-2 will get her done if you don't mind having one in parallel with the other.

For the record i had been listening to a lot of Tool and A Perfect Circle when i wrote this

also, maybe a little bit of tap tempo'd delay in the verse- i reccommend analog/analog sounding for more of a reverby/soft delay with a low repeat rate that'd just make the bassline sound a little bigger imo. Although then you risk getting into tool/isis fanboy territory
