Obviously he's using a Ric modded with a P pup in the normal P position; IMO any P bass could get a very similar tone. For the first 3/4 of the video, his tone has the treble rolled off some, and the only break in that is during a couple of very short passages where he steps on what looks like a Boss DS-1. During the last 1/4 or so of the vid, his overall tone gets dirtier, and sounds more like the classic "P bass through overdriven Ampeg head" sound that everybody wants. I don't know if he just turned up the treble on his bass, or if he stepped on an effect or clean-boost pedal not shown, or if he's just playing more aggressively and that naturally pushes the amp into more dirt. If it's a pedal, again either it's a clean boost that is getting more OD from the amp, or it's a dirty-amp emulator like the BDDI. |

Yes,apart from the obvious distorted tone,I also love the "dirty" tone he mantains throughout the whole song...regarding the BDDI,which kind of effect is it?I already looked around for it but I can't find it where I live, would you happen to know something that sounds close to it?
thank you very much! |

What you are hearing is the guitar, which is playing the same notes as the bass. For info about the BDDI, it's a Tech21 product. Search here on "tech21", "Sansamp", and "BDDI" for thousands of posts about them. If you want something that sounds close, Behringer makes a copy of it. |
