Fender Sublime or Electronix Mess Drive?

I can't decide. I think I like the tone of the Fender better but like the size and control layout of the Mess Drive. Any thoughts?

they're pretty different. The size and layout won't ever make the messdrive sound like the fender

How so? This will be my first fuzz pedal and I really don't know much other than what sounds good to me. I have listened to sound clips of both. So is there any other pedal that would do the job? I play mainly classic rock and some newer rock. Don't want it to be to muddy sounding.

well i owned a messdrive hybrid + a while back and I currently own a Sub-Lime - the Sublime has alot more tonal options, but Electronix's stuff sounds great and is simple to use.

What do you really want from the pedal? Both pedals can sound similar to eachother, neither are radical sounding (which is a definite plus if its your first fuzz). the Sublime is huge and the Messdrive is tiny

The regular Messdrive is very Synthy. For the type of music you are playing, the Messdrive hybrid or more likely Crossdrive are better options from Electronix. However, if you like the sound of the Messdrive then go for it.

After listening to sound samples and reading reviews on a few different pedals I decided to go with the Sublime. I just ordered it. Hopefully it will be here soon!

Try the MXR Bass Blowtorch.

It's got a clean blend built in, very sensible EQ (the switchable midband is very handy), doesn't go as insano-fuzz as other pedals but if you're worried about being heard it's a brilliant pedal for finding the freqs that your guitarist isn't already dominating.

Unless you've got way more volume on tap than your guitarist, or no guitarist at all, or a guitarist who doesn't use much dirt, or a guitarist who's aware that the bass sometimes needs to be up front, or a guitarist who is physically weaker than you and clearly frightened of you and believes you may physically hurt him, try the MXR Bass Blowtorch.
