Filter pedal from synth modules?

I was wondering what type of results I could get from combining some synthesizer modules into a small housing to make a filter pedal? I was thinking about a lowpass filter module, an lfo module and a envelope module. Has anyone tried something like this? Also, I don't really know very much at all about modular synths, would this even work?

a friend did this with a guitar (and a noise generator). he really likes it, able to add modules as he needs/ can afford.
