The main benefit of filters like the Moog is they've got an expression pedal input so you can sweep the cut-off frequency of the filter with your foot. You can't do that with the MXR or the Source Audio pedals, and it's an important feature to have for making synthy noises.
The Moog also has an envelope follower if you want to use it, I believe there's also an envelope follower available as an added option on the Iron Ether filter if you want it. But generally for synthy effects you stick your filter last in your chain and either manipulate it manually or using an LFO. Envelope control isn't so useful for aping a synth.
