Filters with expression pedals

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got to pack off my Meatwad for a few weeks so I was thinking about picking up a temporary replacement, but the only other filters with expression pedal control I know of are:

Pigtronix EP-1
Moog MF-101
Lovetone Meatball

Anyone have any other suggestions? I could just use the filter on my G5 in the mean time (and I've got a Q-Tron for envelope-following duties), but because of the way my board's set up it would be nice to have a separate pedal-controlled filter.

The Barge MB-1 has got three epression outputs and an effect loop, but it's still not out yet. (or is it? Anyone?)

Any filter pedal, as long as you mod it

I'm gonna do it to my Tonefactor 442. There's a cheap BYOC version of this on Basschat that you could get and start fiddling with! It has the 'fixed wah mod' which basically converts one of the knobs into a filter sweep expression control. Apply the same connections to an expression jack, and bingo. Most filter pedals use an opto-coupler, with a LED that shines on LDR. With a switch, you can control the LED voltage via the expression pedal instead of the envelope signal.

But I'll add a few to your list, the Alesis Philtre, Jaques Trinity and the Robot Factory Photron.

This is a temporary measure, so it would be a waste of my extraordinarily laughable soldering abilities.

Cheers. The Trinity is a good idea but it works out quite expensive with the weird expression-ball thing.

Maybe I should bust out my madd solder skilz after all.

I don't think it is and I want one pretty bad.

I had them add me to the mailing list and I check the site every once in a while, but I haven't heard anything and the site has said "Circuit boards are here!!! Just a couple of more weeks...." for two or three months now.

T.I.P. (Tone In Progress) Third Hand.

I don't know of anyone on TB who has used one, but it may be worth checking out, especially if this is a temporary endeavor. Just have it control a "Q" pot.

I'd really like it if the Subdecay Prometheus had an expression control. Then it would be ridiculous.

Great idea but I had a look and it seems their UK dealer is flogging them for £95. Pfft!

Electrix Filter Queen would be easy to score, use, then resell. Not a pedal, but you know. Anyway, I like it for foot-controlled filtering and LFO stuff, whereas I don't really like its envelope-filter sound.

Why not get an Ibanez Weeping Demon? Sure, it's a wah pedal, but it essentially gives you a good range of filtering and the pedal to boot.

Cheap, too, which is good since you're looking for a temporary solution.

If you include the EP-1, you should probably add the ehx polyphase to the list as well.

+1, since the EP-1 is technically an envelope-controlled phaser, as is the Stereo Polyphase.

IME, the Polyphase sounds awesome for funk guitar when you use an expression pedal or the envelope mode, and is great on bass, too.

Glad to hear it because I got one coming REAL soon.

The LFO mode is basically and autowah/phaser as well, right?

Autowah? No. "Traditional" phaser? Yep.

The most popular phasers (EHX Small Stone, MXR Phase 90) are LFO-based.

I stand corrected. I think I was fooled by the square wave mode.

Has anybody tried both the Polyphase and the EP-1? How do they compare?

This has a lowpass filter with expression control, but not really an envelope filter.

It's awesome either way, I got me one.
