Finding new ways to use an old pedal

I've always been a bass-cable-amp type of guy, but about this time last year, I got a Fulltone Bassdrive to add a little grit. While I've been loving it in this manner, I always thought the "boost" channel was pretty harsh, and never really used it much.

Last night on a whim, Playing my P-bass, I rolled the bass's tone all the way off, kicked the boost on at about 1:00, and was amazed by the sweet, creamy, synthy, fuzzy goodness that I heard. I've now rewritten a song around it, and I feel a terrible addiction coming on.

Any stories of finding a totally new way to use an effect pedal that totally changed your opinion about it?

I used to hate flangers because of all the swooshing between notes. I used to hate noise gates. Then I tried putting them together- voila! A perfect match. I'll still only use either of them in that combo.
