Finished with my pedal board build.

I'm not quite ( and probably never will be) finished with the effects, but the board is pretty much done. It isn't that heavy, but I'm sure you could drop a cinder block on it from the roof of your house and the contents will be safe.

Nah, it's not bad. I built another board for my guitar player that is the same size, but I didn't build a lid for it. He plans on using a padded keyboard case. That will no doubt lighten it up some, but I'd rather have an actual wooden lid.

Nice build! How much does the board itself weigh though?

And while that wood does look of sturdy build, I feel like Cinder-block w/gravity Vs. Wood would not end well for Wood.

Is the handle attached to the board or the lid?

Same here (Lid), Im sort of a novice when it comes to building stuff, but my dad is a carpenter so Im trying to find some more time to get with him to see the most efficient/light/sturdy materiel to build one with. As I said tho, yours looks great and its nice to see the design I had in mind being used by someone else.

The board itself is pretty light actually. Even with the pedals and the lid it isn't that heavy. I didn't weigh it, but fully loaded and with the lid it is easily carried, even by my 100 lb wife.

I used 1/2" plywood and 1x material for everything except the angled runner, which is a 2x2 ripped down to 1 1/4". The way I built the lid, all of the weight on the top of it will be transferred via the 1x4 sides to the 1x2 rails on the outside of the pedal board. I am positive a cinder block dropped from say 15' on to the top would leave the pedals undamaged.

This shot may show what I mean a little better. The 1x4 sides of the lid sit directly on top of the 1x2 runners on the outside edge of the board. The plywood on the top of the lid is sitting on top of the 1x4 sides.

The handles are attached to the sides of the lid, which is secured to the pedal board via window catches so it is completely removable.

The hardware was the only thing in the entire build that cost anything. I got $2 in spray paint, $15 in hardware and $20 in heavy duty 3M industrial velcro. The wood was all scrap I had laying around in the shed.

It doesn't seem as heavy anymore, at least not to me. Well done!

What did you paint it with?

It isn't heavy at all and I'm not going to stress out when I cram it into the back of the blazer with a bunch of other crap on top of it.

I used $1 a can gloss black spray paint from Wal-Mart. I thought about the $8 a can truck bed liner stuff ( at least for the lid), but I wanted to be able to put stickers and stuff on it.
