I was thinking of buying my first effects but I'm not sure what I should buy to mess around with. Can anyone with experience on such matters point me in the right direction? I went to a local music shop and the guy there was useless, kept on trying to sell me things and didn't actually listen to me.

Are you looking for a single effect or a multieffects unit?

What's your budget and is there anything specific you're looking for in a multieffects unit?

My budget is up to about $200AUD and nothing really specific as I said before just something to experiment with.

I'd look into a multi effects pedal so you can experiment with alot of stuff then work towards separate pedals if you want.

I had a Boss ME50B which was awesome everything is a switch or a knob, best thing about it was that a retarded monkey with his hands blown off could operate it.

Now i Had a Zoom b2.1u, It's ok it's got alot of stuff, but isn't all the user friendly, but all the stuff that's been poster here in TB about it makes the learning curve alot easier.

Heh i hate sales people, i stopped going to guitar center just because you try to buy something and they're always like "nah man if you're in a band, and you want to sound pro, you need this 600$ pedal, not that $300 dollar one".
