Question First effects - Behringer Bass Trio TPK988

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I am looking to get my first effects. Not entirely sure what i want/need so i was looking at multi effects as a first foray into this new world so i can get a grip of what i like/will use. After a bit of research i had settled on the Zoom B2 - with or without the expression pedal, probably without.

On checking prices on ebay i stumbled upon Behringer TPK998 Bass Trio and it appears to be good value for money at £60 delivered.

BEHRINGER: TPK988

It contains a BCH100 Chorus, BLE100 Limiter and BOD400 distortion.

From what i have been reading, individual pedals tend to be better than a multi effects unit. Would i be better starting with this pack and adding on what i need as i like or just go for the combined B2 unit - after all, it does get some good reviews.

First, I would recommend that you not buy anything Behringer. The build quality is very low.

Depending on your musical tastes, there are some very good alternatives that can be had inexpensively, especially if bought used. try the EHX Bass Big Muff and MXR M-80 Bass DI+ for fuzz and distortion. Many like Boss pedals as well.

Behringer pedals are more suitable for beginners. you'd be better off sticking with the zoom b2. the zoom b2 doesn't have an expression pedal. the zoom b2.1u does. I'd say stick with zoom processors. if you want stomp boxes, save a little more cash on either digitech or boss pedals. if you want a good affordable chorus pedal, the danelectro fab chorus pedal would be a good choice.

thanks folks.

B2 it is.

Did a bit more scanning around and it appears Behringer are not very well received in these parts!

Definitely have confidence in the Zoom B2. It's great for a beginner, I've even gigged with it. It will let you discover what dedicated effects units might be of interest to you. Then you'll go out and get some stompboxes that are better than the Behringers.
