Geez i have way too many Flangers... need to get a phaser..
This is my search for the right sounding flanger for me. In v1.0 we had the Maxon, BF-3, Mistress, and BF-2 TAIWAN model. In this version, we have the BF-2 JAPANESE model at our disposal
So let's get started, here are the 4 candidates. Oh and by the way, the clips with be jazz bass->pedal->soundcard. No amp in the mix this time, you're hearing the pure tone :P Boss BF-2 JAPANESE MODEL Boss BF-3
Maxon FL-9 EHX Electric Mistress
Up first is the BOSS BF-2 JAPANESE MODEL.
First off, it's realllly thick. When you turn this baby on, it's obviously a flanger. It has a lot of sounds you can pick from and i'll go over them on each pedal as well. The BF-2 is a little metallic but we'll see if it's a keeper!

Onto the Boss BF-3.
I like the Boss BF-3 but it was pretty damn expensive! It's got a nice flanger effect though it's a tad subtle. It's going to be fighting against the Maxon to see who goes on my G**tar board but since the maxon is worth more... the BF-3 might be staying :] It also has other features that i would only find useful on g**tar.

Onto the Maxon FL-9.
The Maxon was ALOT of money... It's a nice sounding flanger that i haven't tried on g**tar yet but on bass, it definitely has a unique sound. It's a little dry and not as thick as the BF-2 but it has that tone to it that makes it sound different than the other flangers. I guess you can say it sounds more natural.

Lastly, the Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress.
This is a very unique sounding pedal. A chorus and Flanger wrapped in one box. It shouldn't be confused with a flanger though since it doesn't like one. Let's just say it's a flanger on steroids. It has a Filter Matrix mode which is a little weird. Check it out.

There you have it. :]

| | | | Nice clips! I got my Taiwanese BF-2 (the one with the white knobs that Justin uses) and I can't say enough about it. Funny story - I went to band practice yesterday and my guitarist who has a BF-3 was bashing my BF-2 because it didn't have all those other modes and inputs, and when he tried it out I knew he loved it but he kept bashing it becuase he though his BF-3 was better. But back to the review, I think the maxon was the warmest and most natural flanger, and the electric mistress was the most extreme flanger. |

thanks guys

You serious? You lost lows? The punch of this thing when cycling through lower frequencies usually makes me a bit edgy!
It can sound more "hollow" in the mids during certain points of the cycle at extreme settings than the BF-2 (partly because it's brighter), but lows have never been an issue with me in the slightest.

ill get hold of that BF2 and see how it does for me
cheers

It's kind of beat up, missing some knobs and I'm not 100% if it works, but I'm going to try it out next time I'm around there. My Deluxe Electric Mistress is a little too subtle for me, unless I have fuzz on too.
