so well. mainly the flipster and the VT

anyone done a direct comparison? or owned both previously? thought i liked the look and the sound of the flipster last time i checked it out. wasnt overly impressed by the vt. but was able to get good tones that i would use on a constant basis..

thoughts?

I believe mod Jeremy Allen has used both. IIRC, he preferred the flipster. Send him a PM; he's a heckuva nice guy and can better answer your questions.

("Nice guys finish last"...but thanks all the same!)

I've owned the Linden and the Flipster (still got the Flipster, although it's mysteriously not functioning); only heard the VT online. The Linden sounds really gorgeous, but one would be disappointed if one expected to recreate an old Ampeg with it; it's really just an EQ section. (But a sweet, fat, and functional one at that.) The Flipster, on the other hand, NAILS the sound of a fliptop. There were soundclips posted of an SB12 (the one the Flipster is modeled on) when a guy was selling one on here not too long ago, and I was amazed at how spot-on the Flipster was. Even the distortion came out right. The Flipster is better at the one thing it does, and the Linden is a very useful all-round pedal (I used it with double bass too--sounded great).

That being said, you may find that an Ampeg SB12 is not necessarily what you're looking for. I find myself thinking about the VT just because there are a number of different Ampegs in there (or, well, two--the B15 and the SVT, and the gradations in between). But if you do want the old-school thing, the Flipster will not disappoint. I crank it up with a P-bass/flatwound strings through a direct box and into a Bergantino IP112 stack, and it's a 1000-watt fliptop! Pretty scary.

I've owned the VTbass and have the Linden (which is up for sale :P)
As jeremy said, the Linden is just an EQ with a few extra options (push/pull bass pot, flick switch)

I was really jonesing for a Flipster wasnt really looking for an overdrive, and the linden was cheaper and easier to get hold of.

I love the VTbass, and will be getting another.

I'll just echo whats already been said, if you just want the sound of an SB12/B15 then the flipster should be closer to what you want if you want OD.
The Linden is great if you like it clean. The VTbass will do it all and more.

As mentioned above... the Linden is only an EQ. A good warm and musical EQ, but only an EQ tone stack. It will not inject a 'vibe' into your tone when you step on it. Unless cranking the frequencies you're not going to hear much of a big change when turning it on.

Hey Irvin,

I bought your Jazz of you little while ago. I have the vt, havn't played the others. Vt is really flexible and sounds great. Although imho it always seems to have a bit of overdrive, unles you have the drive right off but that sounds crap to me. i run about 7-8 oclock. So depends what you want. Maybe a linden and vt? IF you get the vt it's cheaper through musicthingz, unless you gettin it from the states

Keep in mind that VT is emulation-colorization. I prefer more natural sounding effects. I don't know what are you looking for, but this new SFT pedal seems really nice.

zup bro. word of advice. stay away from musicthingz. he should be getting brought to court soon for his devious ways.
