on the fly analog effect routing ideas, switchblade, etc.
 

Disclosure: this is pretty much just hypothetical / theoretical stuff, I'm basically just looking for feedback. Anyway:

I've found all sorts of cool things can be accomplished by re-routing effects on the fly--this is pretty much why modular synths are so fun.

I was wondering if any of the people on this board who are smarter than I a have any thoughts about a theoretical patching system - in theory like the Sound Sculpture Switchblade or the yet to be released FAMC Liquid Router A-16. I'm curious if anyone on this board has any other ideas on how something like this could be accomplished. I always see it in my head as an analog patchbay like would be used in a studio with outboard gear.

This is the one thing I like about the Line6 m9/m13 and similar devices--instantly change the series order or parallel the effects. I would love to be able to do that with analog boxes.
Because then I can justify buying a $600 Moogerfooger--it would take an already versatile effect box and make it even more useful by creating a system whereby you could insert it or remove it anywhere in the signal chain. the initial time and investment money would be regained once you start designing sounds, as you would be able to reimagine the effect chain very quickly.

Think about how many times you've re-arranged the chain on your board. It's a huge time suck, and it can detract from the creative flow.

If you can't tell already, I got this idea after playing around with a modular synthesizer. I know that effect boxes and synth modules are very different, but I'm just thinking about how to take that sense of unpredictability and curiosity from patching a modular and apply it to stomp box signal routing.
