Forgive me, TB FX gurus- gtr/harmonica Q's

Sign in to disble this ad
A couple of friends have asked me about effects- one is an acoustic guitarist* looking for simple, easy multi-fx(I'm thinking the Zoom gtr equivilant to a B2 or B2.1u); the other is a harmonica-blower(but a VERY pleasant one- he does NOT overplay/wank all over everyone else )looking for a basic, pretty much always-on delay(he had previously borrowed a Dan-Echo but it's noisy).

*I realize most many acoustic guitarists are not that into FX, and she may go electric soon, but for now we're just trying to get her feet wet. I know she specifically wants wah, but beyond that I think she needs to hear/play a few to see what she likes.

So my questions are *what's a good basic slapback delay for harp?* & *Is the Zoom gtr multi roughly equal to the bass version?*

For acoustic guitar the Zoom A2.1u is the only one that has an onboard pedal to control wah or volume or other effects so it seems the natural choice. I know a player that uses one for acoustic and electric guitar and he loves it, he is more of a rhythm player country and jazz always sounds great thru an amp, PA or the iem system we use.
Harmonica is a more complicated proposition and a lot depends on the mic set up used, generally guitar based efx work well as long as the interface is up to the task.

the zoom A2.1 was on back order for a while on MF. my buddy was waiting for weeks. when it did come he was very pleased with it. he does a duo thing and he sez its quiet and it has a great reverb and delay. The modtone comp is real good too.

Thank you for the replies- on the harp delay, I was hoping someone knew of a moreless *standard* harp delay, but also understand that it may be one of those *different answer for every single player* kind of things.

He has the Bullet, & I gave him an old tube amp- but he wants a basic delay(which I agree adds a lot to harmonica). I believe the gtr amp has reverb, but it crapped out, leaving him running dry(sterile, for me & him).

I just went through helping a harp player decide on effects. He went with the Boss RV-3. It's a combination delay and reverb. You can run just delay, delay/reverb or just reverb. It has several reverb rooms and the delay time is adjustable. Behringer also makes a version of the same DR400. It worked well for him as he wanted to keep it simple, rather than two effect boxes for each effect, he liked one effect pedal with options for both. He also decided on the Boss MT-2 for a fuzz. Sounds really good and can help make the harp sound like an organ or trumpet with a mute...... Lapicide

Man, I'd love to hear someone rock a bass harmonica with some octave and fuzz for weird organ-like swells. Might one say that such a set-up could just be... the best harmonica for metal?

Sorry... I had to.
However, sounds like your harp player is gonna have some pretty cool sounds.

Lapicide, the RV-3 may be *just the ticket*- I hadn't considered that reverb might also sound very nice too. I'll need to resist stealing it from him, though.
Erik the Red, I have an Octave-tuned Echo harp- through a slightly-overdriven tube rig, I bet it would do just what you're talking about.
