Frantone Closing Doors

Hello Everyone,

It is my deepest regret to hereby announce that due to many circumstances beyond my control that it is necessary for me to close the doors at Frantone Electronics for good. By April 1, 2009 I will cease all manufacturing of the Frantone line of effects and will retire from the pedal making business. I wish to thank all of you who have supported me and my work for the past 15 years, and believe me I know that without all of you I could not have made this fantastic line of effects of which I have been so proud to have born.

I will be selling my remaining inventory on the Frantone website but will no longer be able to offer product for wholesale. Good luck to you all and I wish all my dealers and supporters the best. Again, I do thank you all so very much.

With kind regards,

Fran

I'm saddened, but not surprised, with respect to what has happened to our economy...I expect to see more of this too...

This has been known already. All dealers of Frantone pedals were putting them in the closeout section and telling people they were ceasing production soon.

Bummer, they built pedals RIGHT.

So any thoughts as to "Why", aside from "bad economy", etc? Too expensive? Too many options from other folks?

just curious - The idea of a company like this led by a woman is very cool, and it's sad it's going under.

It is cool, but being a female-fronted company has nothing to do with simple supply and demand, cost of goods, bottom-line profit, etc.

It was most likely a host of reasons all piled on top of each other.

Her pedals have gone up in price a LOT in the last year alone. The majority of the Frantone line if I remember were around $200, then $225 (what I paid for my Lo-Tone) and the places that are still selling off their stock are up in the $260-$300 range.

I personally blame grygrx. Had he done his fuzz battles earlier I think more people would have gotten clued in to how cool the Bassweet is.

I'm guessing there really isn't much more to the equation than "bad economy" and "too expensive". Just a guess, but I would think living/operating out of New York where the cost of living is higher played a substantial part.

All I can say is that I've owned two Frantone pedals (Bassweet, Sandwich) and tried a couple others (Vibutron, Glacier, Lo-Tone Fuzz) I thought they were fantastic. Really cool aesthetic, great sound and quality builds. But at the heart of it, they aren't inspector gadget style pedals with a million options. And at their price point I'm guessing a lot of people would take something with more bells and whistles than a simple, great sounding pedal.

^^ +1

They are FANTASTIC pedals. The build quality is second to none, down to every last detail. I really dug her vintage vibe she had with her designs, but like you said, operating out of NYC especially where she was located was BIG $$$

This saddens me greatly, but does not surprise me. It's hard out there for a pimp. I'm glad I got my Bassweet, and I just hope I can find a Sandwich for sale at a decent price sometime when I've got the money to spend. That's one that was lent to me for review purposes, and it's been on my "will eventually buy for myself" list since then.

Man. Of all the companies to go down. Frantone was one of the best.

Yep.

Mom & Pop operations are slowly but surely dying off. Sad.

They're going to go up a lot more now!

I've never had a Frantone pedal but I have pressed my nose up against the glass often. They had a cool aesthetic.

The review on bassfuzz.com is the older revision, the ones in the fuzz battle is the newer revision.
