Fredric Effects - Unpleasant Companion

Now this started out in my fuzz quest as a builder to make me a Shin Ei clone in a custom enclosure, well after a mishap, a change in plans and his new artwork I went with a standard mxr sized box

http://www.fredric.co.uk/effects/ind...asantcompanion

Those unfamiliar with the Shin Ei FY-2 Companion Fuzz, this is the Radiohead Bass Fuzz with a few improvements such as true bypass, 9vdc in, led, smaller enclosure and above unity volume control.

I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, immediately i can say its very unlike anything else I own or would have normally bought, now between this and Merkin I feel I have 2 of the most aggressive and raw fuzz's on the planet and both react in similar ways, if I boost into them they both get more bass and if I roll the volume back I get more bass but just straight in they are very compressed.

Now this might sound like I am comparing the two but the reallity is they are very different from each other.

So this is an initial post to get the ball rolling and I'll try and do some soundclips and stuff this week, maybe a comparison with the Merkin. I want to do mic'd clips as this will just sound horrible direct

One thing I really want to try is the Kimbara (Shin Ei) Wah I have to replicate the Shin Ei Fuzz Wah sounds.

They come with both black and red knobs, I think I'm going to change them to red as they look really nice.

I've always wanted a Companion fuzz, ballpark guess of when it'll be available?

I think Fredric Effects has been selling these for a long while now Spoon. I was always curious about the bass response, and how it compares with the GGG project.

Aha, blindness on my part. Like jetofuf, would be nice to hear some bass demos.
