Kind of cool to hear an upright through a wah but that clip, to me, wasn't all that funky.

That was very cool, very funky.

Did a search for the man and he has some pretty cool stuff!

I don't think this guy sounded very good tbh, he's a better DB player than me but he doesn't have much of a funk feel.

I think you just answered your own question. But seriously, I just didn't find the guy's feel all that funky. All the effects in the world aren't going to make up for a lack of feel.

and another French jazz bassist named Francois - Francois Moutin - he's featured in the first part of this vid

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlE0hVYCNiw

and here's Francois (lives in NY now) with his best-known group, Moutin Reunion Quartet, with his twin brother Louis on drums - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_GvKQVyoSU

band sounds a bit like the old Steps Ahead, to me, with a little Weather Report mixed in

The bassist in Esbjorn Svensson Trio has been using wha on DB for many years. They were a very, very good band. Check them out.

Im suprised noone ripped on the frenchie for having 5 strings on his DB. I suppose the usual clichéd lines wont work:

Haha 5 string double bass, why dont you just go play a....err...er

*goes and researches string family history*

....a viola da gamba. Yeah. Take that.
