I just scored Dave Hill's OD Zilla from moonbass. Should get it in a couple of days. I'm pretty fired up. My swell Bpro should arrive in a couple of weeks too...this had better cure my OD Gas that never seems to go away.

So I couldn't think of anywhere else to post this. Recently I was given the opportunity to give the Sonic Death Ray a whirl. Great pedal btw! I would definitely buy this one if I had the dough.

Here's my demo. It's not a great demo, but I did my best with what I have.

How does that Bass Overdrive differ from the Mission Control?! It looks really nice!!

I love the Mission Control, I am still figuring out how to use it best. It is a far more complicated beast than it seemed.

You get completely different results running other effects into it before and after. I apologize to all that I haven't posted much about it since I received it. It doesn't of course make edgy distortion, but has a plethora of low to medium overdrive sounds with master volume and volume with eq for the clean and overdrive sides. Way too much going on here for me to do it justice with words.

Also Rick, if you get a chance, look through this or PM me. tube power amp pedal?!
It's about making a 2 tube power amp in a pedal with line out to preamp after the power tubes. I know if anyone can make this happen, it's you Rick!!

Thanks man, I would really like to hear your thoughts on it.

Mission control is the same thing w more versatility, more controls.. hence the name..

as far as I know they're the same beast w different sets of controls, bass overdrive evolved into Mission Control,
Just has more ways to blend, control parameters etc

I have to say that the frequency central ODZilla is the best overdrive I have ever played. It really excells at sitting well in a live band mix and has great definition when playing faster notes like kings x's born to be loved. I find a lot of ods sound turns into a blurry mess when playing faster stuff. Thumbs up Rick, I'm sure your mission control is all that and more.

I believe Dl stated that they are two different beasts and I will absolutely second that.
They both have some great positives and I miss my Swell quite a bit. see below

My version (Demon Cleaner) is way on the subtle side and that is just fine by me, as I can get a little intimidated by full bore destructive OD/Distortion. It really reacts to yr playing which is a very nice feature and this got me thinking.......Lets slam the Wholly Mammoth in it!!!!! Hot Corn that's nice.

I really liked:

WM>DC>Octamizer>Xero and

WM>DC>Grinder>Octamizer

For me the subtle grind is nice, but right now I am definitely digging on pushing it with the well gated WM

The SWELL IS PHAT BEAUTIFUL BLISS

RICK ! I keep scanning my issues of BASS GEAR MAGAZINE , looking for your beautiful stomp box!..
had to revive this thread! playing w my FC OD last night and thought about this..

BGM doesn't mess around, they only review the best of the best..!
I've cancelled my Bass Player Magazine script after at least 10 years of buying it, their technical expertise are unlike any mag I've seen in Japan, Germany,anywhere.. i think your unique tube fx will stand up to their high standards!

you circuitry is clean and well designed, I think it'd be ideal for them..they always show FX guts in their reviews,
U might consider sending one of your unique phasers to them instead,
I haven't seen anything like your Gemini biphase or your zillion-stage phasers anywhere,
if you could adapt one for bass, it'd be filling a large gap in the market.
Imagine busting into JPJ's keyboard part in "No Quarter" during a bass solo? that biphase would KILL that tone!

I've been still exploring the small subtleties of my custom OD and I'd LOVE to see all the specs spelled out..

I think bass players have ignored the tube fx that are out there because of the power cords, price, or the size, whatever.& your unit is tiny and so..different. it stays on all the time, gives me sustain and makes me sound cranked up when I record.
( I always hate plugging into random studio's miked B15's turned too low and having to just deal with that tone. I prefer a cranking up a bit more.
My FC OD allows me to walk into any recording session, & feel confident that i will have a little sustain and a more 'live" feel..

I pretty much have decided sell off my whole board and keep my beat up Boss limiter, your OD,(the only two stomps that seem to leave my low end intact)oh, & my combination tuner-A/B box.

(BTW, that last photo of the light blue "retro" styles overdrive was one of the nicest designs I've seen)
you have a real knack for clean, efficient graphic design, I'd love to see more like those, very easy on the eyes!

happy new year and let's see a Frequency Central review for 2013!
..
