What type of pedal could I use to replicate the sound of a fretless bass?

Most multi effects pedals have a patch or two that are for pseudo fretless sounds, they are a combination of compression, slow gear and EQ, no one pedal can get those sounds. Over that it also takes the right touch to get that tone.

You can't replicate it with a pedal. But, I've got a great fretless for sale. Check it out at:

I've heard some envelope filters that can emulate it decently. I think you might want one that can sweep in reverse, though. I forget.

If you have a good finger touch and you know how to play octaves in the right moment and with the right tone set on your bass preamp you can be more close to a fretless playing styles than just use pedal effects.
Try to experiment on the Metheny song Bright Size Life

I disagree. The effects will not be the closest thing but they'll get you closer than your fingers on a fretted bass. That said, I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
