Fulltone Bass-Drive MOSFET 2 versions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all!

I purchased my Fulltone Bass-Drive couple of days ago. It's at my friends and he will bring it to me 2 weeks later. The thing is the version or mine is this:

But on the fulltone.com and proguitarshop.com (where i bought the pedal), the picture is:

And when I do the search in google, i come up with both pictures. The problem is the second picture is all in english sites (mostly american), the first one which i have is all in japanese sites.

But it says Handbuilt in the USA by Fulltone.

Both are MOSFET, but the positioning of LEDs and the writing in the center differs.

Anyone know why this is like that, and are they two different versions. If they are, what are the differences.

Thanks for your answers.
/cheers

There have been several different versions of the Fulltone Bass-Drive, even at least 2 before the Bass-Drive Mosfet. I would assume the bottom picture is of the older Bass-Drive Mosfets because the LED's are positioned as the pre-mosfet pedals' were. Perhaps Mike Fuller had some boxes left over when he switched to the Mosfet and simply drilled another hole in them for the Mosfet switch. At any rate, you could email Mike Fuller yourself for the best answer.

My first Bassdrive was in the blue housing of the original guitar Fulldrives, with the word "Bass" on a sticker added above the word "Fulldrive".

I bought mine a month or so ago from proguitar, same as you, and it looks exactly like the one on top.

I tested one today at the store, versus a Boss ODB. The Fulltone had a very nice subtle overdrive when I tried to get exactly that. The boss was more like a distortion pedal imo.

The Fulltone I tried wasn't a MOSFET, unfortunately, but I can say that this old version did have some low end loss when engaged, I didn't like that. Compared with the boss which had dry/wet blend and a bass and treble boost pot, the Fulltone seemed lacking in that department.

The Fulltone I have doesn't seem to have any low end signal loss and it sounds, to me, like a tube amp clipping. It sounds pretty darn amazing, but it really sings through a tube amp or a tube pre-amp. Lately I've been hooking it straight up to the board.

I like using a very subtle overdrive, so it sounds just like I'm using a tube amp (not so its clipping) and it seems to make my bass tone sound richer and fatter, at least to my ears. I find that since I don't use raging distortion a lot, I figured I wouldn't have much of a use for this pedal. Let me tell you that it is ALWAYS engaged when I play and I hit the boost switch when I want that super distortion (which is rare)

P.S. I have the newer Mosfet one and I've been a proud owner for about a month.
