Fulltone Bass Drive question

Sign in to disble this ad
Finally pulled the trigger on a Mofset version of the bass drive. After reading here all about tones of different pedals I tried it and another and it was(and is) incredible. anyway... only had it for 3 weeks or so. Had a gig tonight and instead of it just turning on/off silently, it has a loud CLUNK when switched on. The boost is silent on/off but the switch on the left is loud.

Tried all different settings at the break and nothing changed it, even with the volume all the way down there was a loud sound.

I have emailed Fulltone as I have heard that the support is good.

Any ideas from anyone here???

cheers

That's the ol' True Bypass Pop really. Some pedals are louder than others, but in my experience they all have it. Try clicking the pedal on and off multiple times before plugging in next time, and hope for the best.

One more reason to "love" 3PDT.

How do you like the Fulltone? I really like mine but widh it retained the low end a bit better.

For the first times I used it (home/practice) there was nothing. And the other hard bypass pedals i have don't make nearly the same POP. I would call it more of a CLUNK than a POP.

As for how it is... It is a great pedal. It keeps the lows great. I use a Jazz V and it keeps the low notes big and fat.

Any more ideas are great.

Don't know... Mine doesn't make much of a sound at all when I kick the switches.

email mike at fulltone and tellhim you are getting a lot of pop. he'll probably have you send it in and and have one of his guys install a new 3pdt for you. a lot of these pedals are assembled and tested at a time. unfortunately they dont test the bassdrives for popping. its an easy fix and im sure they'll do it for you.

Could be a grounding issue. If you have a bad ground, ground loop, etc., that switch can amplify it. I keep mine first in the signal chain for best results and have never had a problem with it.

Power supply or batteries?

I think the ground is fine. Tried it on batteries and power supply. I have it second in the chain with a TU-2. I also emailed tech at Fulltone, havn't got a response yet.

It's a feature of 3pdt bypass, not a malfunction.
You can get rid of it with a 1 megohm resistor added between the pegs of the switch. But then you will have people to come and tell you that it isn't really true bypass anymore. Who cares really, as long as it doesn't make noise.
