Fulltone Bassdrive Comp Cut in smaller package

Sign in to disble this ad
Can anyone reccomend a pedal that would be similiar to the bassdrive in comp cut mode? I am looking for something that adds some presence and aggressiveness with a slight amount of dirt and "burp" The MXR Micro amp got me close but I need a little more dirt.

Not sure if I need a dirt pedal, EQ, Preamp, or compressor to achieve this. Any suggestions?

thanks

In comp cut mode, the Bass-Drive acts pretty much like a "clean boost". It adds a little coloration & can overdrive other devices (amp, preamp, other pedal, etc). A similar boost pedal will accomplish the same thing. In a smaller format, I'd recommend the Fulltone Fat-Boost (preferably original 1.0 version) or the Xotic Bass RC Booster. There are plenty of other units in various sizes and price points, but either of these pedals are great investments and of the same quality you are used to with your Bass-Drive.

Gotta plug the DDyna Thinman for this, too. I liked it better than the Fulltone products, and it has a decent range from clean to dirty.

Hjärt-Müller Lo|Fat Bass-Drive would be good too. The Klang knob gives a nice dirty boost. And then you can add in distortion as you want to it.

I seem to be the only one around here that likes it, but the Fulltone Catalyst might work for you. It's intended to "do everything from clean boost to subtle overdrive to fuzz..." You should be able to dial in a boost with a bit of grit no problem with it.

Yeah I guess I am looking for a clean boost with some character and bite. I tried the catalyst once at a store but I remember not liking it but I was looking for a distortion pedal at the time so I may revisit it. The Thinman looks interesting too. I have seen the Fat boost several times but never tried it. I will give it a shot.

On the cheap?

DOD Bass overdrive is highly underrated and at 30-40 dollars is worth you looking into. It can sound great set correctly and with some gear.. it can sound pretty bad if you don't take your time with it and don't try it in diff. configs.

then, have you tried the BOSS OB-3?
I just want to hate this pedal but everyone I see/hear use one sounds really good on stage.

Clean boost + little extra harmonics = Catalinbread Super Chili Picoso with the fat boost on.

never though of that one, and there is a dealer near by that carries catlinbread.

What I want is to get the extra presence and attack that you would get from playing with a pick without actually using a pick..maybe some kind of treble booster.

Just heard some clips of the Aguilar AGRO, in low saturation settings it kind of sounds what I am looking for, but it is hard to tell without trying it out with my gear.
