What is the difference between the two? Fulltone Bassdrive mosfet vs non-mosfet. Thanks!

the clipping diodes are silicon and germanium on the regular side and are mosfet on the mosfet side, generaly it tends to sound richer (more harmonics) and warmer. but it's not that dramatic of an effect.

No difference when you play in comp-cut mode tough

nice pedal! my only gripe is that I can't use both channels separatly, I'de LOVE to have a separate OD and Boost that I could stack!

cheers

Thanks! So the mosfet one sounds richer, right? I wish there were sound clips of both.

I've only ever used a MOSFET version, but the difference in MOSFET and Standard mode was minimal. In fact, I couldn't tell the difference at all really.

Now, running it at 18V made a big difference, and the Vintage, FM (flat mids), and CompCut modes were all drastically different. Some older versions don't have an FM mode, so that's something to look for.

Is there any way to tell if it has the FM mode by looking at it?

Yep. There is a switch in the middle of the pedal, the middle position is marked FM. I think the older ones don't have switch at all, one of the pots is push/pull for CompCut. Either way, if you don't see FM on the front somewhere, it doesn't have it.

Wow, this thread makes me totally miss my Bass Drive. Never thought I would say that, valley girl accent or otherwise.

Older versions have a 3 way toggle switch between the middle knobs that give the option of either vintage, FM or Compcut

Eldest versions only had the compcut option on the volume pot (it was a push pull pot)

It's a damn versatile pedal really. I never loved mine, but at the same time it always got the job done. Maybe I'll put some crap up for trade...

Ha! I just sold mine & now I'm kinda nostalgic for it again! It never totally "did it" for me though.

No but I also have the middle generation, non-MOSFET three-way. I've played a MOSFET one but I didn't A/B them, and I couldn't tell the difference. I've never seen one of the elder blue push/pull pot ones out in the wild.

But hold on a sec. You can run this at 18v? I have a Fuel Tank Jr. that has a voltage doubler, I'm assuming that's how I would hook it up?

There was a blue one for sale in the classifieds...not sure if it is still there or not.

Are the blue ones considered worse / are they worth less $$ than the other varieties?

I never thought the Bass Drive was a WHOA pedal, until I plugged it into 18V the night before I shipped it off to its new home. The tone was very rich, thick, and dynamic. Like WHOA, man.

Not that it was terribly different from stock, but it was enough to give it that extra special somethin' somethin' or something.
