Question Fulltone OCD vs. Fuzzrocious Oh See Demon

Hey, guys! This is my first post here on TalkBass so please be gentle! I'm in the market for a nice, huge overdrive and I'm pretty caught between these two pedals, I'm well aware that the OSD is based on the OCD, and of the other features available on the OSD. What I'm really interested in is the tonal diversity between the two. I've listened to plenty of recordings and YouTube videos of each, but nothing that can offer a just comparison, since they all use different settings, equipment and recording methods. Is there anyone who owns or has used both pedals, and can offer me some insight into the sounds these puppies can pump out?

I had both and A/B'd them...sold the OCD. The Oh See Demon has a fuller low-midrange presence and about a quarter more gain to it.

Superior of the two, IMHO.

I WANTED an OSD, but ended up buying an OCD v4 from a guy here in New Zealand, as an easier option. (Lazy/impatient)

the OCD is awesome as i love it, but I would think an OSD would be better, as it's built by a bass player with bassists in mind, and has artwork that is way cooler lookin'.

I've tried all the four Fulltone OCDs, and they really sound in different ways, especially the fourth of them, which lacks in volume and low frequencies if compared to the previous versions. Finally I've chosen the OCD v3, powered at 18v, as my main overdrive/dist, with both bass and baritone.

Anyways, I'd like to know by which OCD version the OSD is inspired: I already own a Grey Stache and a Rat Tail, and I couldn't be happier if I can swap the OCD with another Fuzzrocious.

Had an OCD awhile back, it was cool but overall underwhelming. Got a Demon King, and its incredible, game changing incredible. It's one of the best gain pedals I've ever tried, and I tried a ton of them.

I was playing my V1 last night and noticed very little bottom end loss, I`m really happy with it.
what did you find terrible about it and what did you do to mod it, very interested.

mine sounded thin until I modded it.
I changed the frequency response of the clipping circuit and raised the values of the coupling caps.

I had to do the same thing to my plimsoul OD too.

interesting, I wonder if there was inconsistency because mine definitely doesn`t sound thin.
I loved reading your od thread with your amazing builds.
there`s a Wiio on my local CL I`m considering becasue of your thread.
I play precisions pretty much exclusively, would you consider the Wiio a big step up from the OCD V1

I would. I like the WiiO a lot better than my OCD. it's not capable of being quite as dirty, but IMO, it's bigger sounding and more punchy.

IMO, the Pinnacle is very nice (it's a bit more suited to heavier distortion). here's a clip of mine (I added a clean blend to it):

Wake up old thread!

How do you feel about the type of gain. I have not been able to try and Oh See Demon, but I have had a chance to check out the OCD in person. I have to say that I liked the gain and how it sounded like a nice tight sort of distortion.

Do you feel the Oh See Demon has a similar style of gain?

It is hard to tell from the youtube clips how it sounds vs. the OCD. All the Oh See Demon clips sound a bit muffled. So I am not sure what to make of that. If I ordered one, I think I would go for one with the second drive option, as I am not a big fan of feedback, or gate.

Will the Oh See Demon nail gain like this at 2:42?

lol. Don't feel bad brother, I dont have any nice recording gear either. I dig your pedal spread that you make. So, how might you to compare the OCD, and the Oh See Demon?

That, and it is just a video clip, so what someone hears on one side of the interwebz might sound a good bit different that what it sounds like on the othet side of the interwebz.
