"Fuzz bass" on "Think For Yourself" (Beatles)

What set up did McCartney use to get that fuzz bass sound?

I suspect he wasn't playing the Hofner but could be wrong.

What was the pedal or effect?

How about his amp and bass? I like that fuzz sound there. He plays it like a lead instrument and it's got a guitar-like feel to it.

For some reason I thought George played bass on that tune. I seem to remember it in the liner notes or something. Great tone though, great bass line.

I've read that it was a Tonebender MK 1.5. That track, I believe, was recorded before the MK 2 was out, and maybe even the 1.5 (could have also been a MK 1), but I suppose the Beatles would have had the clout to get their hands on that kind of stuff before the rest of us.

As you can hear the MK II is a little too saturated, so I really think it was an earlier MK.

ya, too much sustain and saturation. sounds like if cliff burton played it nice job, though.
