Question Fuzz that cuts low end?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys I';m actually in need of a fuzz pedal that will CUT most of my low end signals coming from my bass and give a high "buzzsaw" type sound. The reason for this is that I'm running a Bi-Amp set up and this will fit with the music I'm wanting to play, would I also benefit from using a guitar amp? If so which one? Thx in advance.

What's your budget? Personally I really like a Tonebender MK II clone for that higher buzzsaw fuzz. You can get a boutique clone, or you can get one from BYOC (I have one) that sounds like this through a guitar amp:

this is pretty much what i'm going for. any suggestions on a guitar amp (half stack), I have no particular budget as long as it isn't ridiculously priced (6k+)

Are you sure you don't want just an agressively distorted guitar amp? That'd save the need for the pedal. What kind of rig does this guitar amp need to compete with when you're biamping?

The DOD YJM308 is a DOD 250 with less bass at a lower price.

Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz? I tried one out briefly - as you cycle through the settings, it seemed to roll off more low end, as well as change the character of the mids.

Do you know how to wield a soldering iron? If so, you can just replace one capacitor in most circuits to cut the low end.

Also, the Boss DS-1 has a tone stack that cuts low end as it's turned up. They're way cheap, and pretty cool. Big Muffs have similar tone stacks, of course (but it seems like I'm suggesting a Big Muff for everything these days).

Do you have any sample of the sound I would be getting.

SPAM: The Exar Superfuzz has a filter that sweeps the emphasis of the fuzz in a steep resonant peak, so you can make it focus on whatever frequency range you want. This is the only clip of it I have right now (more are in the works): http://www.ovnifx.com/clips/superfuzz_chicago.mp3

Mastotron has a really handy lowcut switch and is able to do some serious chainsawing.

The Superfuzz and its clones also come with a switch that I have heard called a bass cut switch or a mid scoop switch, depending on who is talking. I ordered a Wattson Classic Electronics Fuzz clone of it a few days ago. It's been used on famous basslines like the Beastie Boyz - Sabotage, for example. But the different tones you can get from it are so different, it's hard to point to one example. Here's a video demo of one of the original vintage models with a bass.
