I'm thinking of using summer job $$ to buy a pedal and I can't decide which. Is there a pedal that does both?

i'd go for fuzz. any particular sound in mind, or just kind of looking for an effect to toy around with?
i've recently discovered devi ever pedals, and would reccomend looking at some of those fuzzes. i've been really loving my hyperion since i got it a few weeks ago.. |

| | | | Overdrive! That's what I was looking for, overdrive and fuzz!
I'm not looking for anything in particular it's just I wish my Ibanez SR505 had more growl to it, not alot, but some.

I went to overdrive, using a Digitech "Badder Bass Monkey" modified by Humphrey. See this thread: Humphrey Audio Modded Digitech Bad Monkey Bass Overdrive.
I also have a Boss ODB-3 which is pretty good, but it's a very aggressive sound. You might try one of those if you want an aggressive sound.
To me, the real challenge with fuzz, distortion or overdrive is to retain note definition so your playing is still clearly discernible...appropriately mixed, but discernable.

It has a blendable clean channel that can keep the bass and defination of even a bright active bass. Definately a low gain pedal, so it will not sound like a muff, but it does have a great sound.

My ODB-3 has done no better though. It's probably just my inexperience with pedal settings. Overall, I like fuzz better than overdrive because of the difference in tone/how it effects my tone and the harmonic enrichment. |
