Fuzz or distortion?

I'm thinking of using summer job $$ to buy a pedal and I can't decide which. Is there a pedal that does both?

other than the one posted, i dont think its common for fuzz/distortion to be in one box. overdrive and distortion fairly often will come in the same pedal.

i'd go for fuzz. any particular sound in mind, or just kind of looking for an effect to toy around with?

i've recently discovered devi ever pedals, and would reccomend looking at some of those fuzzes. i've been really loving my hyperion since i got it a few weeks ago..

Overdrive! That's what I was looking for, overdrive and fuzz!

I'm not looking for anything in particular it's just I wish my Ibanez SR505 had more growl to it, not alot, but some.

Personally I like the sound of fuzz when practicing, but I have been unable to find a fuzz that didn't bury my sound in the mix when playing live. I went to overdrive, using a Digitech "Badder Bass Monkey" modified by Humphrey. See this thread: Humphrey Audio Modded Digitech Bad Monkey Bass Overdrive.

I also have a Boss ODB-3 which is pretty good, but it's a very aggressive sound. You might try one of those if you want an aggressive sound.

To me, the real challenge with fuzz, distortion or overdrive is to retain note definition so your playing is still clearly discernible...appropriately mixed, but discernable.

If you want an overdrive that adds warmth and grit to your sound, but also retains note defination look at the Wayhuge Porkloin. It has a blendable clean channel that can keep the bass and defination of even a bright active bass. Definately a low gain pedal, so it will not sound like a muff, but it does have a great sound.

I've always loved my woolly mammoth (fuzz) during practice and when I'm playing alone, but like pilgrim said, I've had some trouble playing at gigs with it. My ODB-3 has done no better though. It's probably just my inexperience with pedal settings. Overall, I like fuzz better than overdrive because of the difference in tone/how it effects my tone and the harmonic enrichment.

I just let my fuzz pedal go, but kept both an overdrive, (very mild) and a distortion pedal, (much grittier, and capable of near fuzz). Same as the above answers, fuzz can be easily lost in a dense mix.

i never feel like my fuzz gets lost in the mix.

but i guess thats because i play in a 3 piece band?

i still vote for fuzz of some kind..
